Back to the Basics: Intro

I'm going to star a new part of my blog called Back to the Basics. These posts will be excellent for those who are just starting out in the kitchen, or looking for some simple recipes.

I decided to start this part of my blog because, last week, my friend Chantal asked if I could teach her how to cook. I thought that posting about our cooking together, along with the recipes would help others, like her, who are just starting out in the kitchen. We'll be starting out with very basic foods, and as time goes by, we will do more and more tricky things.

If there is a recipe you would like to see in this part of the blog, please let me know! As usual, all the recipes will be gluten free, but all of them will have suggestions for glutenous versions for those of you, like Chantal, who are not on a celiac diet.

As the late, great Juila Child would say: Bon Appetit!

Going Nuts!

For those of you who are living a gluten free lifestyle, or know somebody who is living a gluten free lifestyle, you have probably noticed how expensive it is. A one pound bag of gluten free all purpose flour costs around $7 at the grocery store, and for someone who makes their own bread, and mostly everything else, a bag does not last very long. I felt like I was spending half of my paycheck on food. My mother suggested I try finding somewhere online I could order things in bulk, to see if I could get a few dollars off. I ended up finding a site that helped me save my budget, and be able to get products I had trouble finding in a regular grocery store.

Nuts.com (formally Nuts Online) is a fantastic place, for not only people who are on a gluten free diet, but for anyone looking to buy products they use often in the kitchen. I was able to get a pound of gluten free all purpose flour from their website for $2.99. They carry flour, pasta, candy, nuts, and all sorts of other goodies. I was able to place an order yesterday that included three pounds of all purpose flour, one pound of almond flour, and two pounds of pasta for under $25. I placed the order at 2pm yesterday, and the package had shipped before I went to bed last night. When I was leaving for classes today, my package of goodies was waiting for me on the front porch, and I didn't pay for special shipping. I have been extremely pleased with the quality of products I have received from this web site. The gluten free all purpose flour is better quality of a product than the stuff that I got at the grocery store. It has a more familiar texture, and is a lot less grainy.

I absolutely adore this website, and can't wait to try the new pasta I ordered. I hope you will take a look at their website. I know I will be placing an order at least once a month! :)

Been really bad at this...

So it's obviously been a while since I have posted. Once school got started things got super busy. I am going to try and post at least once a week now, instead of every day. I think that's a more reasonable goal with my schedule for this semester. I hope you will all keep reading my blog, as I am enjoying writing it when I have the time. Please let me know when I write something you like, and I'll try and write more of those kinds of posts, whatever it is.

Thank you!
